There will be messes if you have children. Walls are vulnerable to small hands and feet, not to mention scuff marks everywhere. What is a parent to do? Consider these washable interior paint options. Here's what you need to know to keep your walls looking fresh and clean despite everyday spills, stains, and scuffs.
What Does "Washable" Paint Mean?
What sets washable interior paint apart from other types of paint? It is specially developed for stain resistance and cleanability. Washable paint is made to repel stains and other undesired marks, and it can tolerate soap and water, avoiding dulling and damaging your walls.
How Do You Pick a Washable Interior Paint Finish?
Interior washable paint comes in a variety of finishes, including high-gloss, semi-gloss, eggshell, and matte. When looking for washable interior paint, which finishes should you go with?
Let us define "finish," often known as "shine." The finish simply relates to how much light is reflected by the paint. Matte paint, for example, has a shine level of less than 10%, making the paint appear flatter. High-gloss paint has a reflectivity of at least 70%.
Eggshell and semi-gloss (also known as satin) paints have enough sheen to reflect light but not as much as high-gloss paints, making them appropriate for the majority of homes. High gloss should be reserved for trim and doors, as well as high-traffic areas such as kitchens. However, because high-gloss paint shows every flaw, ensure that your walls are smooth before painting.
Before washable paints, paint professionals recommended high-gloss paint as the most durable. However, thanks to advances in technology, you can now select the perfect finish for you while remaining confident that it can resist the wear and tear of children.
Does Price Matter?
Is price a significant consideration when looking for excellent washable interior paint for messy rooms? In a word, yes—particularly if you go for a flattering finish like matte or eggshell.
Wondering About Chalkboard Paint?
Chalkboard paint and playrooms go together like mac & cheese. Make a true write-and-erase chalkboard by painting one wall in your playrooms (or part of one wall – within easy reach). Please keep in mind that chalk paint and chalkboard paint are not interchangeable. Chalk paint is very flat paint, whereas chalkboard paint is intended to be used in the same way that a chalkboard is.
